Development of a national mobility data ecosystem

A preliminary study that has recently been completed has shown that innovative data space concepts fit very well with MDM and offer a solid basis for its further development:

With the launch of the “Mobility Data Space” project, we are initiating the development of a national mobility data ecosystem: We connect the Mobility Data Marketplace (MDM) of the Federal Highway Authority [Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen (BASt)] and other municipal traffic data platforms with one another to be able to offer and utilize regional data at the national level as well.

We are expanding the platforms to include data space concepts so that mobility data can be provided securely and confidently. The sovereignty over the use remains with the data providers. In addition, new municipal traffic data and nationwide mobility data from vehicle fleets and mobile networks will be developed and made available for secure processing on the platforms:

The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure [Bundesministerium für Verkehr und digitale Infrastruktur (BMVI)] is funding the project under the Modernity Fund (“mFUND”) funding directive with a total of EUR 3 million. On 28th August 2019, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, headed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Transport and Infrastructure Systems [Fraunhofer-Institut für Verkehrs- und Infrastruktursysteme (IVI)], invited the eight project partners and the funding agency to the Fraunhofer Centre Birlinghoven Castle in St. Augustin, Germany to start the project.
